Parent/Teacher Relationship
We believe that a good parent-teacher relationship is necessary for maximum school success. Throughout the year we will communicate with you through notes, telephone calls, e-mails, newsletters, report cards, and parent-teacher conferences. We encourage you to contact your child's teacher if you have any questions or concerns at any time. You can call your child's teacher at school (610-6030) or reach her by email.

Parent Involvement
You are your child’s first and best teacher and we hope to establish a partnership with you. Parents are encouraged to share their talents, ideas, skills, and other interests with us. Family participation is of great value and importance for the successful relationship between the school and home to develop and grow. You are invited to volunteer and be a part of our community of learners. Please take advantage of this opportunity. You are needed and wanted!
School Attendance
Your child’s regular attendance at school is crucial to his/her achievement. We cannot emphasize this point enough! Most kindergarten learning activities are group oriented and involve interaction with classmates. Therefore, it is next to impossible to make up work at home. Please view school as a priority, and see to it that your child attends everyday except in cases of illness or emergency. If by chance your child cannot make it to school, Lake Ridge requires parents to call the school prior to 9:00 am to report a student’s absence or tardiness. A written excuse should accompany your child when he/she returns to class.
Morning Arrival
School begins every morning at 8:15 am. If your child arrives between 7:45-8:05 am, he/she will need to report to the gym were there is adult supervision until the bell rings at 8:05 am. Students who arrive before 7:45 am must go to Educare. Forms are available in the office if you wish to enroll your child. Morning Educare is from 7:00-7:45 am. The cost is $2.00 per child. After becoming use to the morning arrival routine, please allow your child to walk to the classroom alone. This helps him/her to become independent. If your child arrives after 8:15 am, they will need to report to the office for a tardy slip before coming to the classroom.
Dismissal/ Change in Transportation
Dismissal is at 3:15 pm. However, kindergarten students will dismiss at 3:10 pm. Students will be escorted by designated personnel to bus lines, Educare (information packet available in school office), or the front of the school if they are a car rider. If you plan to pick up your child that normally rides the bus or you wish for your child to ride a different bus than usual, you must send a written note or call the school as early in the day as possible. Do not rely on your child to tell me this information, because children often become confused and relay messages incorrectly. If no written note or call is received, your child will be sent home by his/her usual method of transportation.
Instructional Fees
Fees are $20.00 (please make checks payable to Lake Ridge School). These fees are used to purchase books, tapes, manipulatives, software, and art supplies. $.50 goes to Related Arts.
Money
Any money which needs to be sent to school should come in a sealed envelope with the following information written on it:
1. your child’s first and last name
2. the amount of money inside
3. the purpose for the money (lunch, field trip, etc.)
4. your child's teacher name
Checks are the safest way to send money. All checks should be written in the exact amount and cannot be combined. Separate checks must be sent for lunch, fees, pictures, book orders, etc. Our auditors also do not allow us to give change from checks.
Medicine
Medicine which needs to be taken during school hours is kept and administered in the clinic. Please remember to fill out the appropriate form (from office/clinic) and send it with the medication. PLEASE REPORT ANY MEDICAL CONDITIONS TO YOUR CHILD'S TEACHER!
Cafeteria
Please see the breakfast and lunch information packet. Money may be deposited into your child’s account so it does not have to be sent daily. If your child will be bringing a lunch, please send it in containers which can be thrown away. We are environmentally conscious; however, small plastic containers with lids which are difficult for small fingers to snap shut make for a leaky, sticky lunch box and a wonderful feast for bugs! Please consider zip closure bags and remind your child to throw away any partially eaten food in the cafeteria.
Snack
Snack is a very important part of our schedule, since children use so much energy throughout the day. You will be receiving a monthly snack calendar. On this calendar your child will be scheduled a day to bring a snack for their entire class. Please send a pre-packaged, wholesome snack: vegetable sticks, pretzels, crackers, popcorn, etc. Please do not send in cookies, cakes, doughnuts, or candy. We are trying to promote a healthy lifestyle by offering healthy snacks (please refer to the Food Service handout). We would also like to ask that each child bring a water bottle to use at school. This can be a disposable bottle or a reusable bottle that needs to be cleaned and refilled daily.
Lake Ridge School/Home Folder
The green Lake Ridge folder will be an important communication tool to know what’s going on in our classroom and our school. This folder should be sent to school each day and will come back home each night. Please check it nightly for notes, artwork, homework, school papers, etc. Also, send any notes/envelopes to school in this folder.
Outdoor Recess
The children will be going out for recess everyday unless it is raining or extremely cold. Please keep this in mind when helping your child to select clothing for the day. We are fortunate to have a variety of playground equipment, including several pieces for climbing. Please consider this when selecting shoes. Cowboy boots, dress shoes, and flip flops are less than ideal if your child chooses to play on this equipment.
Birthdays
Birthdays are special occasions for young children. Our school policy is that birthday celebrations be held during outside play time, so as not to interfere with classroom instruction time. Please refer to the attached Food Service handout when making food choices for the party.
Thank you in advance for your help and support.
